Drunk Edenvale taxi drivers arrested by EMPD

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) arrested two taxi drivers for driving under the influence, following routine checks that revealed both were over the legal alcohol limit.

Officers from the EMPD Edenvale Precinct have arrested two taxi drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The drivers were stopped during routine patrols and vehicle fitness checks, first on Baker Road and later on Laurie Road.

Officers detected a strong smell of alcohol and conducted breathalyser tests, which confirmed that both drivers were over the legal limit.

The drivers, aged 38 and 45, were taken to a healthcare facility for blood sampling before being detained at the Edenvale Police Station.

The EMPD continues to emphasise its commitment to road safety and urges all drivers, particularly those in public transport, to avoid consuming alcohol before driving.
