Victim dies after hijacking and shooting on Dunvegan Avenue in Edenvale

A hijacking attempt outside a business in Edenvale escalated into a shooting, with emergency services confirming one death.

Police and emergency services remain on scene following a fatal shooting on Dunvegan Avenue in Edenvale on Tuesday, June 10.

According to the Edenvale Community Policing Forum, the incident unfolded during the afternoon and prompted a response from Edenvale SAPS, private security and emergency medical services after reports of a hijacking and shooting.

Police, private security and emergency services remain on scene in Dunvegan Avenue, Edenvale, following a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 58-year-old woman on June 10.


Mamba Strike Force confirmed on social media that one person sustained injuries and was assisted by emergency responders.

Upon arrival at the scene, a body was visible, and the victim was later declared deceased by paramedics.

Security reports indicate that an unknown number of suspects accosted the victim outside a business premises on Dunvegan Avenue.

The victim reportedly attempted to resist the attackers before being shot, after which the suspects fled the scene.

ECPF chairperson Sheryl Damerell described the incident as deeply distressing, saying she could not confirm all details of the crime scene but acknowledged the severity of what had taken place.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time,” Damerell said.

“When something like this happens, it hurts, it ripples through the community. The behaviour exhibited here by these suspects is absolutely abhorrent,” she added.

Damerell also noted that while the number of suspects could not yet be confirmed, a lookout had been issued for a vehicle believed to be involved in the incident, pending official confirmation from SAPS.

Parts of Dunvegan Avenue remain closed off, with motorists and residents advised to use alternative routes.

A request for comment was sent to Ekurhuleni District Police spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela, but no response had been received at the time of publishing.
