Bedfordview SAPS arrest suspect with drugs after high-speed chase
A high-speed chase from Eastgate Mall to Riley Road in Bedfordview ends in the arrest of one suspect for suspected drugs by the Bedfordview SAPS.
A coordinated effort between Bedfordview SAPS and a private security officer led to the arrest of a suspect and the seizure of a large quantity of drugs.
The arrest took place on July 29 at Riley Road, Bedfordview.
Bedfordview SAPS Social Crime Prevention coordinator and spokesperson Sergeant Lillian Modiga reported that according to information they received, a security officer from All Night Guard was on duty at Eastgate Mall when he observed two males exchanging bags.

When he approached them, the suspects fled in a silver Kia.
A chase ensued, during which shots were fired at the vehicle.
The vehicle later lost control, mounted a pavement and came to a stop. One suspect fled the scene while the security officer nabbed the other.
Sergeant Modiga said Bedfordview SAPS members attended the scene and searched the vehicle.
Suspected crystal meth weighing 714.85g was found inside.
Modiga said the suspect, a 28-year-old African male, was arrested and charged with possession of suspected drugs.
She added, “Bedfordview SAPS commends the alertness and bravery of the security officer and reiterates its commitment to working with all stakeholders to rid our communities of drugs.”

The suspect is expected to appear in the nearest magistrate’s court soon.
Investigation continues and a manhunt for the second suspect is underway, Modiga said.
