Festive season waste removal to continue, except on Christmas Day
The City of Ekurhuleni has assured residents that waste removal services will continue as normal throughout the festive season.
Waste removal services across the City of Ekurhuleni will continue as usual during the festive season, except on Christmas Day, December 25, the municipality has confirmed.
According to the City of Ekurhuleni, all areas scheduled for refuse collection on Christmas Day will be serviced the following week in line with the official waste removal calendar.
The City said refuse collection will operate normally on all other days, including New Year’s Day, ensuring that residents continue to receive uninterrupted services during the holiday period.

The municipality has also appealed to residents not to give so-called “Christmas boxes” or gifts to waste removal workers, noting that this practice goes against council policy and can negatively affect service delivery.
While the City acknowledged that giving gifts may be intended as an act of kindness, it said the practice has led to complaints of abuse directed at waste workers and has, in some instances, caused delays in refuse collection routes.
“These actions place undue pressure on workers and disrupt turnaround times, which ultimately affects service delivery for the broader community,” the statement released by the City said.
Residents who experience any waste removal disruptions are encouraged to report them to the City of Ekurhuleni call centre on 0860 54 3000.
The City wished all residents a safe and enjoyable festive season.
