City confirms Bedfordview road collapse is not a sinkhole

The City of Ekurhuleni says rehabilitation work will begin soon after investigations confirmed the damaged section at Kloof and Van Buuren road in Bedfordview is not a sinkhole.

The City of Ekurhuleni has confirmed that the damaged section at the intersection of Van Buuren and Kloof Road in Bedfordview is not a sinkhole.

Executive Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza said the city’s technical team had assessed the affected area and confirmed the cause was not linked to sinkhole activity.

According to a statement released by the City, rehabilitation work on the damaged road section is expected to begin soon as part of ongoing service delivery interventions.

The affected section has drawn concern from motorists and residents in recent weeks due to visible surface damage and safety concerns along the busy route.

The City said further updates regarding the rehabilitation process and traffic management arrangements will be communicated once work gets underway.
