Residents struggling to pay for municipal services are encouraged to apply for the City of Ekurhuleni’s Indigent Support Programme, which helps qualifying households continue accessing essential basic services.

According to the city, qualifying households may receive up to 10 kilolitres of free basic water per month, up to 50kWh of free basic electricity per month, free refuse collection, up to 10 kilolitres of free basic sanitation per month and 100% relief on property rates.

Applicants must submit the required supporting documents, including a South African ID or proof of permanent residence, a recent City of Ekurhuleni municipal account or prepaid electricity token, proof of household income, three months’ bank statements and, where applicable, an affidavit confirming their circumstances.

The City of Ekurhuleni encouraged residents to visit their nearest Customer Care Centre for assistance with their applications and to determine whether they qualify for the programme.
