Reddam House Bedfordview celebrates 314 distinctions by Class of 2024
The Class of 2024 at Reddam House Bedfordview has delivered outstanding academic results, with 117 matriculants producing 314 distinctions at an average of 2.7 distinctions per learner.
The Class of 2024 at Reddam House Bedfordview has delivered outstanding academic results, with 117 matriculants producing 314 distinctions at an average of 2.7 distinctions per learner.
This success upholds the school’s legacy of excellence, with 74% of students achieving either an A or B aggregate and 25% earning an A aggregate, reinforcing the Bedfordview campus’ status as one of Gauteng’s top-performing schools.

Among the year’s most notable achievers were four learners who each secured eight distinctions:
• Mirela Hoffman (91% aggregate), earned 98% in mathematics, 93% in both English and life orientation, and 94% in isiZulu.

• Kent Allan (90%), who consistently scored above 90% in mathematics, English, business studies, life orientation, and life sciences.
• Mitchell Kathan (86%), excelled with over 90% for life orientation and business studies.
• Matthew Bell (89%), surpassed 90% in physical sciences, geography, accounting and mathematics.
Reflecting on his journey, Matthew Bell explained that he was driven by a desire to make his family, school, and friends proud, and to secure a place at university.

He credits note-taking, past papers, and active recall with key cards for helping him overcome exam stress and improve in his toughest subject, English.
Matthew has accepted a final offer from Stellenbosch University to study actuarial sciences.
Allan’s main goal was to make himself and his family proud while building a strong foundation for competitive courses, scholarships, and future success.
He found mind maps invaluable for visualising course material, relied on teachers’ continuous support, and benefited from group study sessions with friends.
Though physical sciences proved challenging, Kent tackled past papers from various schools to identify common question patterns and plans to study medicine at Wits.

Meanwhile, Kathan was motivated by the prospect of excelling in specific subjects like Afrikaans and advanced programme mathematics, though he admitted to finding it harder to focus on areas without clear targets.
He frequently used AI tools such as ChatGPT to condense teacher-provided slides into manageable study notes, then reinforced his understanding with practice exercises.
Friends helped him stay upbeat during exams, preferring relaxed conversation over last-minute cramming.
Despite Afrikaans being his greatest hurdle, Kathan secured a distinction in the subject and will pursue a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting Sciences at Wits.
Another noteworthy group of achievers included six students earning seven distinctions apiece.
Among them, Kezia Walton (91% average) topped 90% in life orientation, mathematics, isiZulu, business studies and geography.
Madison Ferrão, Gino Anic, Anele Mpofu, Zoë Pye, Yashodhan Naidoo, and Muhammad Patel each secured a rare 100% in mathematics.
Reddam House Bedfordview also celebrated learners who featured in the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) national rankings.

Hoffman earned placement on the outstanding achievement list, placing her in the top 5% in six or more subjects.
Allan, Ferrão, and Walton achieved a commendable achievement, ranking in the top 5% in five subjects.

In the IEB’s top 1% subject rankings, Hoffman featured in three subjects, Kent, Amber Latten, and Kezia in two each, and Matthew Bell, Kelsey da Silva, Madison Ferrão, Keira Hale, Mpho Kubheka, Chelsey Marks, Muhammad Patel, and Zihao Xu in one each.
Head of Reddam House Bedfordview, Stephen Hazley, praised both the Class of 2024 and the teaching staff.
