EMPD cracks down on non-compliance among road users

A unit with EMPD – called the Taxi Task Team, impounded 16 minibus taxi it said did not comply with National Road Traffic laws.

An operation conducted by EMPD saw 16 minibus taxis being impounded for non-compliance with the national traffic laws.

EMPD’s taxi task team led the crack down on February 6, in Katlehong.

Taxi task team officers were stationed on the busy Masakhane Street to conduct inspections on taxis that transport commuters on the road.

“During the operation, officers found vehicles operating without license discs, making use of wrong permits and no operator cards, while the conditions of the vehicles failed to meet the requirements of the National Road Traffic Act of 93/1996,” EMPD’s statement reads.

EMPD appeals to all vehicle operators to ensure that they comply with national traffic rules and regulations and to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy, especially public and scholar transport operators.

CoE’s metro cops warned that failure to comply with traffic rules will result in vehicles being impounded. EMPD said these operations are aimed at ensuring the safety of motorists, commuters and pupils.

The non-compliance crackdown in Katlehong by EMPD, Gauteng Traffic, and SAPS – where 16 taxis were impounded – resulted in the vehicles being transported to the Benoni Provincial Pound.
