Help Better Bedfordview complete its pothole mission

“We have repaired 95 potholes in Bedfordview since the beginning of February this year,” said Better Bedfordview chairperson Marina Constas.

Wet weather has resulted in more potholes on the roads and community nonprofit organisation (NPO) Better Bedfordview says that it has had to accelerate its drive to fix these dangerous road hazards.

“We have repaired 95 potholes in Bedfordview since the beginning of February this year,” said Better Bedfordview chairperson Marina Constas.

She noted that since it was launched as a registered NPO in June 2022, Better Bedfordview has fixed more than 847 potholes.

There are 38 pothole repairs on Better Bedfordview’s schedule for the next two weeks and 32 potholes are awaiting funding from street groups.

“This is a dangerous problem on our roads. With our current income, Better Bedfordview can only allocate a certain budget to potholes and urgently needs donations from residents,” Constas said.

“With all the rain, potholes are growing and multiplying. As much as we want to ensure that all our roads are safe and accessible for all road users all the time, we do not have the funds to fix all the potholes in Bedfordview that need urgent attention.

“We are asking the Bedfordview community to adopt a pothole or two today. Get your neighbours together to fund repairs, if there are potholes getting you down in your road.”

Constas said that to get a pothole repaired by Better Bedfordview, residents should follow these steps:
• Measure the pothole you want Better Bedfordview to repair
• The cost for a repair is R1 000/sqm, payable to Better Bedfordview
• Work out the cost for your pothole repair (R1 000 for a 1sqm pothole, R2 000 for 2sqm)
• Pay Better Bedfordview, using the word POTHOLE and your name as the reference.

Residents should then send the pothole location and size, along with the proof of payment and all their contact details (name, cellphone number) to: info@betterbedfordview.org.za.

“Let’s sort out our roads together! There is no pothole fairy coming to save our rims and keep us safe on the street,” Constas stressed.
