Tzu Chi South Africa, the compassionate relief organisation with its head office based in Bedfordview, is set to host their annual family-friendly vegetarian fair.
The event, scheduled for August 24, from 10:00 to 16:00, at their Jing Si Hall in Bedfordview, promises a day filled with food, fun, and entertainment.
The fair aims to celebrate green living and plant-based delights while giving back to the community.

Attendees can look forward to a variety of delicious vegetarian food stalls, eco-friendly product displays, entertainment, and exciting lucky draw prizes, including an air ticket, a TV, and cash.
“Winning an air ticket to Taiwan at the fair last year allowed me to visit the Tzu Chi main centre in Taiwan and meet with the founder, Master Chen Yen.
This was the highlight of my year and inspired me to ramp up my volunteer activities with Tzu Chi”, said Vis Naidoo, a lead volunteer who facilitates the monthly Saturday Volunteer programmes.

The event will also feature fun games and activities for the whole family. Patrons are encouraged to support the book and clothing donation drive.
“This fair isn’t just about food, it’s a chance to explore a more compassionate lifestyle, connect with our community, and support meaningful charitable work,” said Tim Huang, the CEO of Tzu Chi South Africa.
In addition to the fair, the foundation has launched the New Sprout Tutor Classes, which began on May 31.
The programme invites 60 children from Grades Five to Seven from rural communities such as Lion Park, Olievenhoutbosch, Primrose, Ivory Park, and Tembisa to receive tutoring in English and Mathematics.
Qualified teachers from local public schools, along with tutor assistants, provide quality education and support.
The programme also includes extracurricular activities, life skills, and team-building exercises to offer a holistic learning experience.

Character education, known as the Jing Si Aphorisms, is also promoted to instil good values in the learners.
They also host open volunteer days twice a month, on the third Saturday and the last Sunday of each month.
Volunteers can participate in various activities, including making of refurbishing bamboo banks, and the crucial packing of pre-loved clothes for families in need.
The organisation carries out an annual winter food distribution program to thousands of families around South Africa, thus food packing is another vital activity during these days.
Each month, outreach activities in the community take place from engaging with children at care centres to visiting the folk at homes for the elderly.
The Sunday event days also feature a flower arrangement class and a tea ceremony.
Volunteer days start at 8:30 to 15:00.
The volunteer days are frequented by many high school learners as part of their community hours project, doing meaningful activities and receiving fulfilment in the process.
The foundation welcomes people of all ages to join and contribute to sowing seeds of love in the community. For enquiries, contact the foundation on 011 450 3365 or follow their Facebook page Tzu Chi SA.
