St Benedict’s backs East Rand Palliative Care

Staff, learners, and parents at St Benedict’s College donated clothing, books, and household items to East Rand Palliative Care during the school’s Spring Clean Bring-a-Thing drive, raising funds and awareness for the community-focused charity.

Staff, learners, and parents of St Benedict’s College once again demonstrated their unwavering support through the school’s recent Bring-a-Thing initiative.

Organised as part of the Spring Clean campaign, the day generated a generous amount of pre-loved donations, from clothing and books to household items, all collected in aid of East Rand Palliative Care’s charity shops.

These shops play a vital role in raising funds to support individuals and families facing life-threatening illnesses.

But the day was about more than just donations. It gave the East Rand Palliative Care team the opportunity to connect with the St Benedict’s community, sharing more about the organisation’s mission and the services it provides.

Many parents and learners stopped to learn how the team not only assists with pain and symptom management but also offers emotional and spiritual care.

The warm welcome and genuine interest shown by everyone at St Benedict’s were both uplifting and appreciated.

“We are incredibly grateful to the school for their kindness and generosity,” said Jonquil Siepman, marketing and media liaison at East Rand Palliative Care.

“Events like these are not just successful in terms of fundraising, they also open doors to meaningful conversations and raise awareness about the value of palliative care in our community.”

East Rand Palliative Care, formerly known as Hospice East Rand, continues to serve the East Rand community with dedication and compassion.

The name may have changed, but the heart of the organisation remains the same: ensuring that no one has to face serious illness alone.
