The initiative focused on identifying and assisting people living on the streets.

The profiling process involved gathering information about each individual’s background and current situation, after which officers worked with social development partners and family members to facilitate possible reunification or placement in care facilities.

The EMPD said the operation is part of its efforts to improve road safety and community well-being, as many homeless people frequent busy intersections, where they are at risk.

“By reuniting homeless people with their families and connecting them with support services, we’re restoring dignity band contributing to safer roads and neighbourhoods,” a statement from EMPD read.

The department reaffirmed its commitment to working with local social agencies and the public to address homelessness and promote inclusive safety across Ekurhuleni.
