Elma Park and Modderfontein Scouts achieve prestigious Springbok Award
Two local Scouts were celebrated at the national Springbok Awards for their commitment to leadership, outdoor skills, and service to their communities.
Elma Park resident Kirstynn Switala of the Third Kensington Sea Scout Troop recently attended her Springbok Awards Ceremony.
She was joined by Modderfontein resident Matthew Middlewick of the First Harmelia Gardens Air Scout Group.
The annual ceremony was held at Gilwell Scouting Centre, Florida Lake, on October 11 and celebrated all Scouts who received their Springbok Award in 2025.

The Springbok Award is the highest honour a Scout can achieve in South Africa. It recognises not only advanced scouting skills, but also leadership, service, and personal growth.
The Path to Springbok challenges Scouts to apply everything they have learned on their Scouting journey while making a lasting impact on their Troop, community, and country. Achieving the award requires dedication, courage, and determination.
To qualify, Scouts must complete a range of requirements, including first aid, a respect-for-others project, map work, a three-day camp, and more.
For the three major tasks, each Scout must complete at least 40 hours of community service, lead a hike of over 30km in unfamiliar territory, and plan and run a major project.
Very few Scouts reach this level, and it requires special dedication to get there.
