Gauteng warns public about fake EPWP job advert circulating online

The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport has cautioned residents about a fraudulent EPWP recruitment advert spreading on social media, urging job seekers to verify information before applying.

The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport has raised the alarm over a fraudulent Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) advert circulating on social media platforms.

The fake post claims to offer placements under a supposed “Roads Maintenance Tender (3 years): Contractor – Khulakwande Construction” and invites members of the public to sign up for work opportunities. The department has confirmed that the advert is not legitimate and was not issued by any of its units.

In a statement, the department urged residents to exercise caution and avoid falling victim to the scam.

“The department firmly distances itself from this fake recruitment drive and reiterates that no such EPWP opportunities have been advertised by the department,” it said.

The fraudulent advert misleadingly claims that the work is open to students, interns and community members, offering a daily rate of R140. It also falsely promises placements on roads closest to applicants’ homes and assures that personal information will be kept private.

The department said it is unaware of the origins of the advert and advised the public not to engage with or share the misleading content.

Residents seeking genuine training or employment opportunities within the Gauteng Provincial Government are encouraged to use the official GPG Jobs Portal. The department also warned that unofficial websites are commonly used to deceive and exploit job seekers.

Members of the public who are uncertain about recruitment information should verify details directly with the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport’s Directorate: Human Resources (Recruitment) or contact the departmental switchboard during office hours.
