Better Bedfordview announces seven winners in Best Pavements Competition
This year, the judges of the Better Bedfordview Best Pavement Competition decided that honouring just one winner was impossible and honoured seven outstanding pavements.
The community improvement NPO, Better Bedfordview, announced the results of its 2025 Best Pavements Competition.
Instead of just one best pavement this year, the judges have named seven inspiring winners in various categories.
This is the sixth year of the annual competition launched by Better Bedfordview in 2020 to help uplift and improve Bedfordview, and inspire everyone to maintain and beautify their pavements.
This year, the judges were Carol Payne, who heads the NPO’s landscaping committee, and plant and garden guru, Wayne Stewart, from the Eckards Garden Pavilion.

They decided that selecting just one winner was impossible. Instead, seven outstanding pavements, each exceptional in its own way, were honoured as category winners.
“Every winning entry contributes something unique and inspiring to our neighbourhood,” commented Payne.
The 2025 category winners:
Best new pavement/business pavement
Bitventure on Concorde Road was honoured for a striking new pavement that is already a landmark in the area.
“Every business should be inspired to follow Bitventure’s example of a pavement that shows community pride and professionalism,” Payne said.
She noted that an important consideration when planning a pavement garden is allowing space for pedestrians to walk, and Bitventure handled this perfectly.

Best established pavement
Cheetham Close on Cheetham Road, Bedford Park, took top honours in this category. The complex has a mature, colourful, beautifully maintained pavement that reflects years of care and dedication. Payne said that it is a Bedfordview classic.
Best water-wise pavement
A pavement on Fairway Avenue won this category. It is a perfect example of creative, drought-tolerant planting. It shows that beauty and sustainability can go hand-in-hand.
Best contemporary design
A modern, bold and artfully minimalist pavement on Milner Avenue won this category. Payne noted that this pavement was thoughtfully designed to match the architecture of the home, which should be considered when planning a pavement garden.
“There is also space for pedestrians to walk,” she stated.

Best small complex pavement
A magical mix of roses and manicured green lawn caught the judges’ attention on Kings Road.
Best large complex
The winner on Pamin Road is a standout example of a formal, romantic design featuring hedges, roses and statues.
Best shady garden
The winner on Rotherfield Avenue is a cool, leafy oasis that shows how deep shade can be turned into a textured, tranquil and beautifully layered pavement garden.
“These pavements don’t just beautify Bedfordview; they inspire others to follow their example. We are proud of every winner and nominee,” said Better Bedfordview chairperson Marina Constas.
“Thank you for helping to make Bedfordview better. The seven winners and all the nominees show what’s possible when people take ownership of the spaces we all share.”
