Edenvale Hospice launches creative fundraisers to support care services

Edenvale Hospice invites locals to join painting workshops and a 5km fun run to help sustain vital services.

It has been all systems go since Edenvale Care Centre Hospice reopened its doors at the start of January.

In an effort to keep the doors open and the funds flowing in, Edenvale Care Centre Hospice administrator Ronel Barnard has planned several fundraisers.

Ronel said that since the last appeal to the community for assistance, the response has been phenomenal; however, the centre needs sustainable, long-lasting funding.

One of the ways in which she hopes to secure this is by hosting continuous fundraisers throughout the year.

The first fundraiser, set to be held on February 21, Bubbles and Bottles: A Creative Tea, will be hosted at The Garden Gallery and Café between 13:00 and 15:00

The event, which will be limited to 25 people, will give attendees the opportunity to enjoy an afternoon out while painting a bottle of either alcoholic or non-alcoholic champagne with a design of their own choosing.

Community members can keep the bottle of champagne as a memento or give it as a gift.

Tickets to the event will cost R370 and include coffee or tea and a scone, as well as a bottle of champagne.

“The Garden Gallery and Café are giving us the venue for free, which is absolutely wonderful,” said Ronel.

The second fundraiser will be held on March 1 at Peter Pan Park.

Ronel said a 5km fun run and walk will be held to raise funds for the Edenvale Care Centre Hospice.

She encouraged community members to support the fundraisers and help the care centre.

Besides hosting the fundraisers, Ronel said the centre is in desperate need of regular donors.

“As a community-based NPO, we need the support of regular donors and big businesses to support us and what we do for those in need,” highlighted Ronel.

She said community members and representatives from businesses are welcome to visit the care centre to see the work that it does and how it helps those in need.

Speaking about the centre’s monthly costs, Ronel said it costs R136 000 to keep its doors open.

She said the amount includes: salaries, electricity and water, medication, maintenance, telephones and internet, insurance, and other additional costs.

“As a non-profit, if we were to receive support from a company, we would be able to provide a section 18A certificate to them,” said Ronel.
