Girls inspired at St Andrew’s science careers talk

A panel of speakers making their mark in the fields of science, technology and engineering celebrate International Day of Women and Girls in Science with St Andrew’s Girls.

In celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the grades 4–7 girls of St Andrew’s School for Girls enjoyed an inspiring and engaging talk from a panel of speakers who are making their mark in the fields of science, technology and engineering.

School marketer Brandon Townsend said the talk happened on February 11.

The school was privileged to welcome the following guests:
• Simone Luis (old girl, class of 2018), civil engineer
• Dr Samantha Phillips (old girl, class of 2012), veterinarian
• Nirvana Sewmungal, director of Nirvana Space Tech
• Joel Singh, guest speaker from the GEC Space Programme.

Each speaker shared valuable insights into their respective industries, along with personal reflections on their academic journeys, challenges that have been overcome and milestones achieved. Their stories highlighted the importance of perseverance, curiosity and confidence in pursuing careers in STEM-related fields.

Townsend said the panel encouraged the girls to dream boldly, remain inquisitive and embrace the vast opportunities available within the world of science and technology.

The session sparked thoughtful questions and meaningful engagement from the audience, leaving many of the girls inspired to consider future pathways in these dynamic fields.
