Resident thankful for clean park

These men achieved more in one very hot day than our council has done to improve this park in ten years.

EDITOR – My wife and I, and I am sure many of the residents living along the river between First and Sixth Avenues, would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the chairperson of the Edenvale Ridge Residents Association (ERRA), committee and all involved with the bush clearing initiative on October 5.

A team of about 20 men, armed with bush cutting equipment, moved into the area and by 3pm there were massive piles of invader bush, small trees and so-on that had been cleared from the banks of this river.

The river banks become overgrown, blocking the natural course of the river which caused flooding and, of course, not to mention a fantastic hiding place for criminals and vagrants, which in turn causes other problems.

These men achieved more in one very hot day than our council has done to improve this park in ten years.

I have contacted the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) parks manager so many times that when she gets a mail from me she already knows what is coming before even reading it.

It appears that nowadays if you want something done, you have to pay somebody to do it, even though we pay our rates and taxes, as well as the new R5 area cleaning levy.

Kudos and a very big thank you to all involved with this initiative.

BRYAN AND CLAIRE BAILEY,

EDENVALE.
