Edenvale champ retains world title at boxing tournament

Edenvale’s Ricardo Malajika defended his IBO World Junior Bantamweight title when he took to the ring as one of the headline bouts of the Power House Box and Dine tournament.
The tournament was held at Emperors Palace on April 5.
At a pre-fight conference and weigh-in at the Palace of Dreams on April 3, Malajika said he was confident of retaining his belt when he met Marcel Braithwaite in the ring.

This proved true when Malajika put on a brilliant boxing performance to successfully defend his title against Braithwaite of Liverpool in the UK.
A bloodied Brathwaite fought to the end, but Malajika gave the overseas visitor a boxing masterclass to record a unanimous points decision victory.
The three judges scored the fight 120-108 in favour of Malajika

Potgieter, who trains at the Edenvale-based Trinity Boxing Strength and Conditioning with Danie du Preez and Pound For Pound Fitness in Fourways, won the heavyweight title after challenging Gomes.

Fellow Edenvale boxer Darrin Rossouw went against a former Germiston resident who now resides in Alberton, Brandon Thysse, in their 10-round junior middleweight contest.
Two judges scored the fight 96-94 for Thysse and the third judge 96-94 for Rossouw.
