Edenvale Lions Basketball Academy gears up for tournament

"We are a family above all and we need to support one another."

As Edenvale Lions Basketball Academy swung into action, coaches and management encourage players to remain committed, dedicated and motivated throughout the year.

By doing this coaches hope that players and the academy will grow from strength to strength.

“Let’s treat each other with respect, we are a family above all and we need to support one another,” said coach and co-founder Edson Makavan.

He encouraged players to give it their all especially as ELBA prepares to host its R1m The Vale Tournament (TVT)
Initially meant to be held at the end of November at Ellis Park, the tournament was postponed to April.

Fellow co-founder and coach of ELBA, Byron Pinheiro, said although he understood the disappointment of the players surrounding the postponement there was nothing the academy could do.

“There is no need to rush things, the TVT can propel us forward but we need to work together,” said Pinheiro
Makavan explained that the Vale Tournament was postponed because of payment delays from some of the sponsors.

Following this, a decision was taken to postpone the event with a possible venue change being considered.
When ELBA competes in the TVT its members will be doing so in its new kit sponsored by Victor Muhoni of Edenvale-based Venice Autospares.

Muhoni said it felt good to be a sponsor of the academy and explained that his involvement in giving back to the community started after Makavan approached him.
