Help Reddam House player represent SA for Rugby World Cup in Ireland

Reddam House Bedfordview learner, Jordan Johnstone was selected for the Atlantic Youth Touch Cup 2025 South African squad. To make his dream come true, he is appealing to the community to assist him in raising funds to go to Ireland.

Jordan Connor Johnstone, a Grade 11 learner at Reddam House Bedfordview, will represent South Africa at the U17 Touch Rugby World Cup in Ireland from July 31 to August 3.

The Primrose resident earned a scholarship to attend Reddam House because of his academic, sports, and cultural achievements.

“I have been on the rugby scene since I could walk. I started watching the game when I was around four or five years old. I started playing small baby rugby around six,” he said.

However, rugby is not the only sport that he is good at. He has shown his athletic prowess in various sports, including hurdles, where he earned multiple gold medals, and long jump, cricket, and soccer.

His achievements extend beyond the sports field, as he has consistently excelled academically throughout his schooling career.

“I represent the Springboks’ touch rugby, which will get me maybe noticed as my dream is to one day play for the national team,” he added.

The U17 Touch Rugby World Cup will bring together the finest young talent from across the globe, and Jordan’s inclusion in the Touch Bokke Team is an honour for him and his family.

However, to make his dream come true, he needs financial assistance to cover travel costs.

“We are proud of Jordan’s achievements and want to make his dream of representing South Africa at the World Cup a reality.

“Unfortunately, we cannot cover all the costs on our own, so we are reaching out to potential sponsors and supporters to assist us.

Any contribution will not only help Jordan but also support the future of South African rugby,” explained his mother, Maud Johnstone.

According to Maud, Jordan is one of the standout players known for his speed and agility.

“We invite anybody able to assist us financially or with sponsorship for Jordan to play in this Touch World Cup.

“The company can be advertised abroad, and their name and products or services will be made known, so the financial assistance will not be taken for granted and go unnoticed,” she added.

The estimated cost is R60 000 to 70 000 for the four-day trip, excluding visas and passports.

The money must be paid to the South African Touch Association. So far he has R30 000.

They are also running a GoFundMe campaign.

He said participating in this tournament was important to him, “The experience I will gain during the tournament will help me pursue my dream of playing at a professional and national level.

“Going to the UK has always been one of my dreams; I would like to one day live there. Playing in the UK opens so many doors for scouts,” said Jordan.

He is available for interviews with potential sponsors.
