Bedfordview Primary hosts action-packed U9 netball and soccer tournament
On May 24, Bedfordview Primary School welcomed young athletes from across Gauteng for its annual U9 netball and soccer tournament. With standout performances by Hurleyvale, Founders Hill, and Edenglen Primary, and Bedfordview clinching the netball title, the event celebrated youth sportsmanship, skill, and school spirit.
Bedfordview Primary School hosted its annual U9 netball and soccer tournament on 24 May.
Participating schools included Edenglen Primary, Founders Hill, Colin Mann, Hurleyvale, Jeppe Preparatory, Leicester Road School, and Wendywood Primary School.
While the tournament celebrated young netball and soccer stars, the parents and coaches were treated to tea, coffee, and snacks arranged by the BPS Parents’ Association Committee.

In a closely-contested netball tournament, the Bedfordview Primary U9 girls showcased impressive footwork, game sense, and spatial awareness beyond their years, narrowly edging out Hurleyvale Primary to clinch the top spot.
“The scores were neck and neck, and the final result was determined by goal difference, which was in BPS’s favour,” said BPS netball head coach Chanel Nash.
Kemo Metswi was the player of the tournament, an achievement praised by coach Tinika Azevedo.
“Kemo’s exceptional ability to read the game, combined with her strong defensive play and attacking skills, was outstanding. I am immensely proud of all my girls,” she added.

Founders Hill finished in third, demonstrating great teamwork and spirit.
Hurleyvale Primary’s boy‘s team won the soccer matches. They dominated the field with solid passing, quick turns, and strategic positioning.

Leicester Road and Edenglen battled fiercely for second and third places, respectively.
Founders Hill secured fourth place with commendable effort.
Hurleyvale’s central midfielder, Shaka, earned player of the tournament honours for his relentless work ethic and commitment to giving 110% in every game.

Although they did not feature among the top teams, Bedfordview Primary School’s U9 boys played with heart, resilience, and impressive sportsmanship, earning respect from all competitors,” said head of extra-curricular activities Jonathan Nash.
He also highlighted Mikaylin Damon as BPS’s nominee for player of the tournament, acknowledging his tireless defensive efforts and calm composure on the pitch.
