Skateboarding clinic inspires youth in Edenvale

Young skaters from Alexandra and Soweto joined Girls Skate SA, the Cartoon Network and the Johannesburg Skate Club for a skateboarding day.

Girls Skate SA and the Johannesburg Skate Club gave skaters a platform to showcase their skills at the 011 Skate Park, Edenvale.

Children from Soweto and Alexandra attended the event, which included an unveiling and a skateboarding clinic on February 7.

The Cartoon Network was present with characters Gumball and Darwin from the Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball, causing excitement among the young crowd.

Girls Skate South Africa was created by Jacobs in 2015 to create a sporting platform that included and represented skaters of all genders.

In 2022, she began the Johannesburg Skate Club, which focuses on underprivileged communities around Johannesburg.

The initiative aims to unearth SA’s top skateboarders while keeping the children off the streets.
