Saintignan claims BSI Premier Division title after strong performance

One Balderstone Sports Institute golfer achieves victory at the Premier Division End-of-Cycle 72-Hole Championship while the other achieves it at the Junior Academy End-of-Cycle 1 36-Hole Championship.

The Balderstone Sports Institute (BSI) Premier Division End-of-Cycle 72-Hole Championship saw Yanis Saintignan achieve an outstanding victory.

The championship was held from March 23 to 26 on the West Course at Royal Johannesburg.

BSI head of marketing Roger King said Saintignan produced rounds of 77, 68, 70 and 71 to finish at an impressive two-under par 286.

“The championship began under extremely challenging conditions, with the opening round disrupted by heavy downpours and lightning, forcing players on and off the course throughout the day.

Saintignan showed composure and resilience in the testing circumstances, before capitalising on improved conditions over the final three rounds with consistent, high-quality golf,” reported King.

He added that since arriving from Reunion, Saintignan has demonstrated a relentless commitment to excellence.

“His victory reflects a player fully committed to maximising the academy’s world-class coaching, structured training environment, and high-performance processes, and stands as a testament to both his work ethic and the value of BSI’s holistic approach, with a strong foundation now in place positioning Saitignan exceptionally well for the year ahead and the next three years of his PGA Diploma journey,” King said.

Also in round one were Corban Ras with rounds of 71; Kean Buytendorp 78 and Vané Dercksen 87.

Meanwhile, Kayle Turner also achieved an impressive victory in the BSI Junior Academy End-of-Cycle 1 36-Hole Championship on March 25 and 26. Turner finished on an excellent level-par 144 with rounds of 69 and 75.

Beyond the result, King said Turner continues to stand out for his exceptional character and unwaveringly positive attitude.

Over recent months, Turner has steadily climbed the junior ranks, not only through strong performances in external competitions but also by claiming a BSI 36-hole championship title.

King added, “What truly sets Turner apart is his maturity, embracing both the highs and the setbacks of the game, learning from each moment, and maintaining his focus regardless of the breaks that may or may not go his way. His resilience, composure, and commitment to continuous improvement are clear indicators of a player with both talent and the right mindset for long-term success.”

Round one also had Jason Nofal at 78 rounds and Timothy Sello at 81, and round two had Timothy Sello at 79 and Connor Mooi at 80.
