Shifu Gottert gives back to the community

He established his class in 2014 in Tracadero Centre, Observatory.

“I want to give children from disadvantage backgrounds a chance to deal with the challenges they face in life through discipline,” said Shifu Dieter Gotter.

Shifu Gotter has studied martial arts since 1982 and he is now an instructor.

“I was accepted as a student by Grandmaster Su Chin Miel in 1987 while he was living in South Africa.

“He taught me the Shun Wu Tang Kung Fu,” said Shifu Gotter.

He established his class in 2014 in Tracadero Centre, Observatory.

He was encouraged by other Shifu’s to open the school.

“I found this place and decided it was time for me to share the knowledge of Shun Wu Tang,” he said.

Shun Wu Tang teaches discipline and builds confidence,

Shifu Gottert has represented South Africa in the International Chinese Kuoshu Federation World Championships in Las Vegas, in the 65 to 70kg weight category.

In 2006 he graded to 6th Degree under Grandmaster Su Chin Miel in Taiwan.

Shun Wu Tang Kung Fu teaches martial and military strategies, tactics and is followed greatly within Shun Wu Tang. These principles helped greatly during the Tai Ping Rebellion (1850), when Shun Wu Tang was formed.

Shifu Gottert is looking to give back to six young people who would like to learn Shun Wu Tang Kung Fu but cannot afford to pay for the lessons.

Children who are interested have to be in school, be 12 years old or older, and come from a disadvantage background, in order to receive free lessons for a period of six months.

“Students pay for lessons but money is not always the driving factor. You might have an interest to learn but you know your parents cannot afford the classes. This is the reason I’m doing a beginner’s class and giving free lessons to potential students” said Shifu Gottert.

School pupils who are interested in learning Shun Wu Tang can go to the Tracadero Centre in Observatory, where they will be interviewed by Shifu Gottert.

Should the child meet all the requirements and they are found to be committed, they will be able to take the class for six months.

“They will learn a lot from Shun Wu Tang, as it will build their confidence and mental strength.

“There are many youngsters who have a number of issues in life as we live in difficult times. This can be a coping mechanism for them,” said Shifu Gottert.

Any school pupil who is interested in joining a beginner class can contact Shifu Gottert on 072 913 4557 or email powercombatzone@gmail.com.
