Youngster races towards a bright future
He started competing in 2013, at the tender age of 11 and in 2014 won his first regional title in Mini Rok karting.
Cameron O’Connor from Bedfordview is a 14-year-old star fast making a name for himself in local motorsport circles.
He started competing in 2013, at the age of 11, and in 2014 won his first regional title in Mini Rok karting.
After clinching the 60cc Maxterino primary school title in 2015 and the 125cc High School Junior Max crown a year later, the talented youngster served notice of intent.
In 2016 he won the Junior Max National and Regional karting titles.
This year Cameron will have his hands full competing in the Senior Max and DD2 Karting Championships regionally and nationally, and doing the Investchem F1600 Championship as part of the Extreme Super Series, SA’s premier motorsport show.
In the first round of the series, held in Cape Town in March, Cameron finished seventh overall in his first start in F1600, racing against vastly more experienced opposition and at Kyalami last week on his second outing he improved on that by finishing 4th and 3rd in the two respective heats.
His racing idol is Kimi Raikkonen and his interests outside motorsport include running, golf and PC gaming.
With the support of his devoted parents, Gavin and Samantha and younger brother Riley, and the guidance and race car preparation of Brian Kruger, this is a young lad going places.
Cameron is following a long line of illustrious racing talent which has come from our neck of the woods.
