Danone Nations Cup open for registration

Using soccer to develop children's full potential.

The Danone Nations Cup is open for registrations and schools are invited to get their learners involved.

The tournament is for children between the ages of 10 and 12 years of age.

“Educators have the responsibility of providing opportunities and experiences that will help young people to develop their personality and character and school sport is an acceptable medium to do this through the tournament,” said Chantel Ehlers, communication manager for Danone Southern Africa.

The tournament plays a vital educational role in developing children as it provides a way for schools to teach valuable life lessons in a fun way by keeping children active.

“Every year, through our competition, we touch the lives of over 2.3 million children around the world. Since its inception in 2000 over 35 million children have played in our competition making it the biggest tournament of its kind in the world,” said Ehlers.

She said they are proud of the statistics and pleased with the fact that South Africa has managed to win the world finals 3 times (2003, 2007 and 2009).

Ehlers said the tournament is built on four fundamental pillars: fair play, openness, accessibility, and passion for the game. It uses football as an important platform to bring health through sport to as many children as possible.
