“I used to run to work every day. I was working at Germiston by then. It was a way of saving transport money. Little did I know that I will end up running the Comrades.

“This was the 10th Comrades Marathon that I participated in. I now have a green number.

“I used to watch Comrades on television until I saw old people participating. I said to myself, if old people are running why can’t I? I started running the Comrades in 2008 and I have never looked back,” he said.

Hlatswayo said he would like to see Bertrams residents participating in athletics.

“A lot of people in Bertrams stand around the corners while others commit crimes. I would like them to come and join me when I run,” he said.
