Bedfordview Primary hosts successful U9 soccer and netball tournament

Various schools participated in the Bedfordview Primary School’s annual U9 Soccer and Football Tournament and showcased excellent sportsmanship.

Bedfordview Primary School once again hosted its annual U9 Soccer and Netball Tournament.

The successful event held on May 30 was sponsored by Spar Bedfordview this year.

The morning started with energy and excitement as teams ran onto the soccer pitch and netball courts, delivering skilful play, fierce competition and excellent sportsmanship.

Participating schools were Bedfordview Primary, Edenglen Primary, Reddam House, Colin Mann, Hurlyvale Primary, Leicester Road Primary, Jeppe Preparatory, Wendywood Primary, Founders Hill and Eastleigh Primary.

Bedfordview Primary School (BPS) lifted the 2026 soccer trophy after remaining undefeated in a tightly contested competition. Coaches and referees praised the team for their excellent skills and fast-thinking passing, all while maintaining composure under pressure.

Leicester Road’s striker Gbolahan Sadiq impressed with a string of well-worked finishes, clever through-balls and smart defensive work, earning him Player of the Tournament.

Hurlyvale Primary were crowned U9 netball champions, racking up an impressive 60 goals across the morning to take gold.

The tournament featured slick circle feeds from goal attack and goal shooter combinations, strong intercepts by goal defence/goal keeper, quick centre-pass transitions and shooting skills beyond their age.

Eastleigh Primary’s Emily Pugin played in any position and demonstrated great versatility, earning recognition as the overall Player of the Tournament.

“Two fast-paced demonstration matches between coaches and parents added extra spectacle and drew enthusiastic cheers,” said BPS netball head coach Chanel Nash.

Extra-curricular head of department (HOD) Jonathan Nash extended a special thank you to Spar Bedfordview for their generous sponsorship, including branding around the venues, adding true festival vibes, medals and trophies for the top three teams, and sponsored soccer balls and netballs awarded to standout players.

Every player also received a hamper at lunch, which was much appreciated.


“Thank you to the coaches, staff and parents from BPS and all visiting schools for their dedication and sportsmanship,” added the HOD.

“Most importantly, thank you to the boys and girls who played with heart as they competed for the champion’s cup.”

The tournament once again showcased developing talent across both codes and left players, coaches and supporters with a memorable, competitive morning.
