Queens High cricket team the kings of the cricket pitch
The team played against Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU), University of Johannesburg's Soweto campus, University of Wits and University of Venda.
Queens High School’s First cricket team recently won the Small University Tournament hosted by the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits).
The team played against Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU), University of Johannesburg’s Soweto campus, the University of Wits and the University of Venda.
The team was invited by Wits to take part in the tournament as part of cricket development.
The team members, including Tumelo Yiki, Lionel Mpisi, Ndumiso Moyo, Jabulani Manaste, Farai Muringa, Thembekile Shude, Thembile Shude, Mzikhona Buthelezi, Nhlanhla Nhtleko, Lucky Nhtleko, Kagleho Zwane and Sivuyile Noncanda, are looking forward to their upcoming school cricket season when they will play against King Edward School, Parktown Boys High School and Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool (Affies).
Coach Bongani Ntini said he is proud of the team.
“It was an honour to win the tournament. It gave the boys exposure,” he said.
Player Katlego Zwane said they practised a lot.
“I feel very honoured that we won the tournament. It encourages us to practise even more,” said Katlego.
“As a player, I truly feel proud of my team’s efforts. It proves that the game just needs skill and talent. A player who works the hardest always gets the upper hand,” said Lionel Mpisi.
Lionel encouraged youngsters to play cricket.
