Mayor sends condolences to the families of the plane crash victims
The mayor of Ekurhuleni, Clr Mondli Gungubele, described this morning's plane crash as "freak" and "devastating".
Gungubele visited the crash scene today and passed his condolences to the families of the three people who died.
“While we may not really know what happened here, it may seem that the Austrian couple were probably on vacation in the country,” the mayor said.
“Listening to the story told by eyewitnesses, and looking at the crash site, I cannot help but conclude that this was quite a scary and painful way to lose a life.
“Actually, it is by God’s grace that more people were neither injured nor killed because the plane crashed in an open space between houses in the middle of the Wattville township.”
Gungubele thanked some of the community members who assisted to retrieve the trio out of the wreckage.
He has encouraged authorities to dig deep as they seek the truth as to what really transpired.
