Weekend of wins for local cricket clubs
Benoni’s Premier League cricket sides enjoyed Sunday victories.
It was a good Sunday for local Premier League sides Actonville Spurs Cricket Club (ASCC) and Benoni Northerns Cricket Club (BNCC).
The former travelled to the Prince Thethe Oval in Kwa-Thema and managed to get their first win of the second half of the 2017/2018 Eastern Premier League campaign.
It was a dominating display from the men from Actonville.
Bowling first, they wrapped up their hosts for just 80 runs in 34.4 overs. CJ van der Walt (3/27 in 10 overs) and Wilber van Dyk (3/11 in two overs) were the chief destroyers with the cherry.
Actonville cantered to victory in 19 overs, losing just one wicket in the process.
Opening batsman Ahmed Sayed (42 not out) and captain Mekyle Pillay (23 not out) steered the team to a nine-wicket win.

That winning feeling was also felt at Northern Areas where skipper Kurt Francis’ BNCC XI enjoyed a seven-wicket win over an unpredictable Bedfordview side.

Batting first, Bedfordview put together a score of 159 runs before they were bowled out in 45.1 overs.
BNCC’s Ernest Kemm, Lance Humphrey, Tian van der Walt, Phumelelo Masetlane and Stefan Jordaan each bagged a brace of wickets with the ball.
With the bat, BNCC opening batsman Vaughn Humphrey continued where he left off against United Cricket Club the week prior, with another excellent knock of 83 runs that guided Northerns to a third straight victory in 2018.
They will play another home game on Sunday, February 4, when Duduza come to town.
ASCC will host Tembisa at Lords in Actonville.
The first deliveries are scheduled to be bowled at 10am.
