Kings of Jozi tournament produces great football
Seventeen teams took part in a tough tournament that saw two teams walk away with prize money.
The Inaugural Kings of Jozi five-a-side soccer tournament, hosted by the Lakefield Sporting Club (LSC) Astroplex, was recently held at its new facility at the Lake Club Benoni.
Football Flava FC won the tournament by beating Gringos FC 1-0 in a tightly contested final.
The event, sponsored by Dawood Frozen Foods, featured 17 of the top five-a-side teams from around Gauteng competing for R7 500 for the winner and R2 500 for the runner-up.
“More importantly at stake was the bragging rights of being crowned Kings of Jozi 2021,” said Abdul Rehman Sibda, chairperson of LSC Astroplex.
The teams that took part:
Group A: Santos FC, Sundowns FC, Football Flava FC, Gamazine Bullets, Akatski FC, Glama Boys
Group B: SCN amigos, 2 touch kings, Snowfall FC, Young Brazilians FC, One love FC
Group C: Retired Ballers, Gringos FC, Piemonte Calcio, The Selecao, PPSG FC, En Fuego FC

Musa Mtungwa was crowned the player of the tournament while ‘Chandi’ was named the goalkeeper of the tournament. Both are from Football Flava FC.
Sibda said he was ecstatic about the support received from the participating teams as well as that from the public who witnessed top-quality soccer.
He also thanked the organising committee, sponsors and volunteers for their part in ensuring that the event was a roaring success.
“We had top teams from all over Gauteng participating. We are looking forward to hosting many more successful tournaments for all age groups in the future.”
