They also handed special awards to deserving Rotarians who have contributed to the growth of the club.

A 30-year journey ended on a high note for outgoing president Kevin Norris on June 27 when he bid farewell to the Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora at an induction dinner at Clearwater Estate in Boksburg.
Unveiling a new chapter, Norris handed over the reins to a long-standing club member, Sylvia Knoop, who takes over the role of the 31st club president.
With this year’s theme ‘creating hope in the world’, Rotarians vowed to inspire and restore hope through their various projects.

Speaking during the intimate ceremony, attended by Rotarians from other clubs and special guests, Norris thanked everyone who served alongside Lindy Moerkerken during their term as club president.
“Over the last 30 years, so much has changed. My time in Benoni Aurora has been my greatest achievement, and I worked side by side with friends and family in the name of Rotary.
“I cannot begin to imagine what we would have done without the support of our Rotary family. I know the club will continue to create hope in our world,” he said.
Norris further thanked his fellow Rotarians for their hard work and commitment.
Knoop, during her speech, thanked her club members for having confidence in her to be the club president for 2023/2024.
“I am optimistic that we can still achieve a lot. I will continue to create hope in Rotary and the communities we serve,” said Knoop.
Rotary Anns
They also inducted Janice Carter as the Anns’ president, taking over from Knoop.
She said it was an honour to be inducted alongside Knoop, who she admires.
“This coming year will see the Anns working harder than ever to help our community. We have a busy few months ahead of us, with a food stall in Midvaal in mid-July, supporting our Rotary Club with their Golf Day on August 23 and distributing 466 smart meals for our Mandela Day projects,” said Carter.

Jeanne Woodman received the Rotary Ann of the Year tray while they presented the Rotarian of the Year awards to Larry Hyde and Gail Wilson.
Meanwhile, seven Rotarians who headed various departments received Rotary Service Awards.
