Footballers turn out in numbers for trials
The club will keep its doors open for any players who may want to join.
Eighty aspiring footballers turned out for the East Rand Superstars Football Club trials at the Cardinals Baseball Club Grounds at Boksburg Stadium on February 12 and 13.
These young hopefuls came out in numbers eager to be selected to form part of this elite club that has its sights on development and providing players with playing opportunities abroad.
Founder and director of the club Shan Naidoo said he was impressed with the turnout.
“The tryouts went well. We are busy with the second round of selections this week. We have options for the trialists who won’t make it so that they will develop over time,” he said.
Naidoo revealed that the players they have identified will add great value to their current roster.
“There were a few boys who really stood out and we are happy with the process so far. These boys will add value to the team as they bring their flair, passion and raw talent.”
He added that because of the abundant talent in the region, they will keep their doors open.
“We are happy with the few talented players we have on our radar but we will keep pushing for more.”

Superstars Academy partners with Shuaib Walters Goalkeeping Academy
The team has partnered with former Vasco da Gama, Bloemfontein Celtic, Maritzburg United and Cape Town City goalkeeper Shuaib Walters’ academy for a one-day professional goalkeeping training for clubs and schools from around the East Rand.
Walters, who is also a former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper, is a CAF and Farouk Abrahams Goalkeeping and Life Skills Academy (FAGA)-accredited goalkeeper coach who enjoyed more than a decade playing in top-flight football.
“We have partnered with the Shuaib Walters Goalkeeping Academy to help us with goalkeeper development. The aim is to collaborate with other clubs and schools and to provide a platform to develop their goalkeepers,” said Naidoo.
Naidoo emphasised that they aim to help as many youngsters as possible advance their careers.
“We aim to develop talent and not hold players back and if we can, helping other clubs develop their players using our network is great.”
The training will take place on March 27 from 09:00 to 11:30 for ages seven to14 and ages 15 to seniors from 12:30 to 15:00. Walters will use the East Rand Superstars base at Boksburg Stadium for his training.
