Mistakes make SA a difficult investment

A men’s breakfast was held at the Benoni Central Methodist church on Saturday morning, October 8.

Guest speaker Chris Hart (executive director of Leapfrog Advisory) spoke to the men on several topics including the state of the global economy, local economy, political economy and the fourth industrial revolution.

The breakfast was attended by 60 people who started off their morning by singing hymns, followed by a breakfast and speech session by Hart.

“We host four men’s breakfasts a year,” said event coordinator Stephen Pillay.

“We want men to fellowship and these breakfasts are open to anyone who would like to attend.”

After breakfast, Hart took to the stage and began to explain how society needs to save their money in order for investments to increase.

“I have a scientific background which indicates that the effect should never be more than the cause,” Hart said.

He also explained that students would prefer to attend universities which have higher fees, because higher fees should ensure a higher quality of lectures and work.

“We need to have a higher credit rating, because places like Sars and the Financial Services Board just access our accounts and take money,” Hart added.

He also explained that companies which are more open to being invested in, receive more capital than those that are not.

“In South Africa we have a triple mistake which makes the country difficult to invest in,” Hart said. The three issues are taxes, unemployment and politics.

He told the audience not to have a mindset like a ‘cable thief’. “A cable thief is someone who will destroy the entire cable for a few cents,” Hart said.

Lastly, he explained that we need to undergo a fourth industrial revolution, whereby power comes through technology and people can order products online.

“That’s the time when winners will embrace the change,” Hart concluded.
