School art competition at Northmead Square a success

Northmead Square School Art Competition winners were announced on November 9 at the shopping centre.

The theme of the competition was my Benoni.

A total of 21 pieces (top three in each category) were exhibited at the shopping centre from November 2 to 9, where the public had the opportunity to vote for their favourite.

The categories were: Primary school (ages six to seven, eight to nine, 10 to 11 and 12 to 13) and high school (ages 14 to 15, 15 to 16, 16 to 17 and 18 to 19).

Marketing manager Sharné Bodenstein said a total of 72 art pieces were received and the Benoni Art Association, together with the management of the square, chose the top three in each category.

“A total of 572 residents cast their votes for their favourite art piece,” said Bodenstein.

“The art competition was a huge success and we will be doing it again in March next year. All the details will be published on our social media platforms in due time.”

Bodenstein thanked the City Times, Jacks Paint Hardware (Northmead Square) and Oakfields College for their sponsorship.

The top 21 finalists received art hampers from Jacks Paint Hardware (Northmead Square) and two of the high school finalist (category 16-17 and 17 to 18) received R10 000 bursaries from Oakfields College.

Benoni High School submitted most of the entries.
