Clive Derby-Lewis dies at the age of 80

Derby-Lewis served a life-sentence for his role in the assassination of South African Communist Party leader, Chris Hani.

Former Conservative Party MP Clive Derby-Lewis, who was released on medical parole last year after serving 20 years in prison for the assassination of MK and South African Communist Party leader Chris Hani, has died. He had terminal cancer.

It is believed that correctional services would release an official statement.

Derby-Lewis was a founder member of the Conservative Party after its split from the National Party.

He was arrested for the role he played in assisting a Polish immigrant to South Africa, Janusz Walus, in the killing of Hani. It was also revealed that Derby-Lewis had lent the gun used in the assassination to Walus.
