On Tuesday, July 1, former President Nelson Mandela’s great-grandson delivered massages of hope by Benonians to his grandfather.
Thembela Mandela collected a green cloth signed by a number of Benonians and delivered it to the former statesman at the hospital in Pretoria.

The campaign of writing and signing of the cloth was organised and led by The Streets Are Fed Up (SAFU), an East Rand Performance Arts organisations.
SAFU member Lungelo Chiume said: “As a youth-centred body with a membership and following of a generation of 94 “born frees” we felt it would be nice to do something for the father of the nation who united us, along with many others who afforded us the fruits of democracy we enjoy today.”
Chiume said young people came through in their numbers, together with employees of Ekurhuleni.

The cloth was also taken to the Lakeside Mall for signings by local residents and the Lakeside Mall Centre management.
