Police nab 225 for drugs

The Benoni Police Cluster arrested 225 people for possession of and dealing in drugs.

Police spokesman Capt Alfred Nakana said the statistics are for the week ending July 12, and were collected at all six police stations within the cluster.

“Daveyton is tops, with 95 arrests, followed by Etwatwa with 88,” said Nakana.

He said the police would like to thank the community for all the tip-offs.

“We will continue intensifying stop-and-search operations and police visibility,” he added.

Nakana said cluster commander Brig Vuyokazi Ndebele also commended the police for their good work.

“The brigadier said ridding the area of drugs will also help to bring down other crimes, such as rapes,” he said, thanking the community patrollers, the reservists and the EMPD for helping out.
