Benoni crime decreases

"Crime in Benoni is on a down slope."

This were the words of Benoni Visible Policing head Col Thomas Maupa, at a Community Policing Forum meeting, in the City Hall, on July 17.

Maupa said That when he checked the statistics and compared them, he was impressed to notice that crime had decreased.

“The only crime troubling us at the moment is property crime, which includes housebreaking and business burglary, mostly in Rynfield, Farrarmere and the CBD,” said Maupa.

Smash-and-grabs and car thefts are also troublesome.

Maupa also touched on the issue of the seven Nigerians killed in the area recently.

“We are working with the provincial task team on this one, but we are hoping for a breakthrough,” he said.

No one has been arrested regarding these murders.

Maupa, who was the police station commander for Daveyton until the taxi driver dragging incident, promised 100 per cent commitment in the fight against crime.

He called on the community to support the police.
