Jaffles and jolliness at Rynpark voting station

Jaffles and more at Rynpark voting station

Despite snaking lines, the mood at Rynpark 1, was filled with optimism and dusted with the scent of cinnamon.
Ensuring that voters remained well fed and hydrated, residents of the various retirement villages under the Rynpark banner set up stalls selling all sorts, including freshly flipped pancakes and jaffles.
With her jafffle pan searing hot, Tokkie Aucamp of Rynpark 4 said that the pop-up stalls enjoy great support from voters biding their time.
Onto election matters, voter Barbara Mulondo said that voting extends beyond a ballot.
“You cannot vote and then sit back and continue complaining. she said.
“When the going gets tough or you are unhappy with what is happening in your community, you need to attend public meetings and hold the elected leaders accountable.”
Mlungisi Khumalo said that although matters relating to basic services – such as reliable and sustainable water and electricity supply – is driving voters' decisions, safety and security should also be taken into account.
“Safety is also a basic right.”
“Communities cannot grow if they do not feel secure. Now is the time to stand united for the good of all residents.”
Embracing their inner youth, Nicholas da Costa and Morgan Moodie donned colourful propeller hats.
“People are under immense pressure and although elections is serious business, it is important to make time for a little laughter,” said Nicholas.
“If we can laugh together, surely we can stand united for change.”
