Miss Benoni 2012 shares …
“Never give up; try again and have fun,” is the advice of Benoni beauty Shannel Gray, to all the beauties of Benoni, hoping to be crowned Miss Benoni 2013.
Entries are now open for the Mr and Miss Benoni 2013 beauty pageant and Gray will always retain the title of Miss Benoni 2012.
“I’m sad that it is coming to an end,” she said with a smile.
She describes her experience as a pleasant lifestyle which she has become used to.
When the City Times asked how she, personally, benefited from this year, her answer was: “People in need are a bit more comfortable when you want to help them if you have a title; for example a golf day which I recently held.
“I am also exposed to so many interesting people in Benoni.”
Gray described the young woman who she would like to claim the title of Miss Benoni this year as someone who is truly honest and shares all the qualities of a beautiful person.
“An ambitious and outgoing girl, who is not afraid to be herself,” she added.
Hesitating to say what her favourite part of being Miss Benoni was, she concluded that, more than enjoying everything, it was the moment she was crowned.
Gray enjoyed sharing the position of Benoni “royalty” with Brad de Waal, Mr Benoni 2012.
“He is a very interesting and genuine person,” she said.
“We worked together a lot of the time, which was fun.”
She reminded young women who want to enter the pageant that they have to be committed to their responsibilities and be prepared to give a lot of their time.
She also said that the judges choose someone different each year and that “it is important to be yourself and let that something that makes you unique shine.”
Other than being beautiful and having a heart for the Benoni community, her intelligence shines, too.
Gray recently finished studying business management and business administration management and co-opened a boutique, Strut Designs, with her mom, Ingrid Otto, in March.
She automatically qualifies for the semi-regionals for Miss South Africa.
Young women who fit the requirements of the pageant can enter for Miss Benoni 2013 by completing and dropping off the form provided in this week’s Benoni City Times at Rampage Modelling Agency, in the Northmead Square office block.
