And the winner is….

Thursday, last week, at the cocktail launch party of the Caxton Reynolds Race 2013, at Hirsch’s, the 12 competing teams received their first lead for the competition.

The Springs Advertiser team, Dennis and Marisa Williams, received the R5 000 Hirsch’s voucher, as the winners of the first leg of the competition.

Each week the team who submits the correct answer and proof of their task being completed first, gets the most points and wins the R5 000 Hirsch’s voucher for that week.

Last week’s lead took the teams to the Voortrekker Centenary Monument in Brakpan, where they had to take a picture of themselves in front of the monument and identify the historical building behind the monument.

Here are the results of week one in the Caxton Reynolds Race 2013:

Readers competition:

Each week our readers will stand the chance of winning a R500 Hirsch’s voucher by answering the question we publish right here, for the next 10 weeks.

To enter, SMS the keyword Race, followed by the correct answer to the question below, and your first name, to 35718. SMSes are charged at R 1.50 each. (Example: SMS Race Town Hall Joe to 35718).

This week’s question is: Where in Brakpan did the Rand Central Electrical Company first erect an electrical station, to provide urgently needed electricity to the mines and growing towns of the Witwatersrand?

*Please note: the correct answer is not the town hall.

Winners will be notified telephonically and this week’s competition closes on August 4, at noon.

At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!
