He celebrated his birthday with family and friends by hosting a small get-together on July 28, at Summer Place, in Boksburg.
Pullinger was born in 1923, in Pietersburg, now known as Polokwane.
He was one of seven boys, and all six of his siblings have now died.
He has lived in Benoni for the past 15 years and, prior to that, lived in Edenvale for 40 years.
He worked for the South African Railways for 14 years, and later moved to South African Airways, where he worked for 29 years.
He retired 34 years ago, in 1979.
In 1947 he married, Baby, and they were married for 50 years, until she died, in 1997.
Pullinger then met and married Emily in 1998; they have been married for 15 years.
He had four children, Tracie, who died in 2011, leaving Billy (63), Martin (58) and Hester (56), six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
During his youth he enjoyed rugby and swimming.
He currently spends most of his time gardening, ensuring that his garden and the church garden are beautiful all year round.
According to Pullinger longevity is definitely not in his genes and that he has lived this long because of the grace of God.
“For a 90-year-old he is still flexible; he still climbs a ladder to paint a roof by himself, although I have scold him about it,” said Liza Neuhoff, his daughter-in-law.
