And the winner is

At the cocktail launch party of the Caxton Reynolds Race 2013, at Hirsch’s Boksburg, the 12 competing teams received their first lead for the competition.

The results of that round were the Springs Advertiser team in first place, with 12 points, Brakpan Herald in second place with 11 points, Germiston City News in third place with 10 points, Southern Courier in fourth place with nine points and the Bedfordview and Edenvale NEWS and Joburg East Express team in fifth place with eight points.

The Springs Advertiser team, Dennis and Marisa Williams, won the R5 000 Hirsch’s voucher, as the winners of the first leg of the competition and, in a surprising twist, the second leg of the competition was a non-scoring round; so all the teams will remain in the same positions as they are now, and the winners of leg three will receive a R10 000 voucher to spend at any Hirsch’s store.

The first lead given to the teams at the cocktail launch party took the teams to the Voortrekker Centenary Monument in Brakpan, where they had to take a picture of themselves in front of the monument; and they had to identify the historical building behind the monument.

The second lead, given to the teams on Friday, last week, took them to the Thomas Titus Nkombi Memorial Park, in Elspark, Germiston.

Each week our readers will stand the chance to win a R500 Hirsch’s voucher by answering the question we publish right here, for the next 10 weeks.

*Please note that the correct answer is not the town hall.

Winners will be notified telephonically and this week’s competition closes on August 4, at noon.
