A quick sting to gorgeous skin
Beauty, radiance, softness, flawlessness… These are the qualities every woman I know desires her skin to possess and the treatments I had enhanced mine.
The City Times recently tried out the mesotherapy and carboxytherapy treatments, performed by medical practitioner Dr Sharon Lion-Cachet, at her practice, called Breezology.
These terms were totally foreign to me until I underwent the treatments, an experience made extra pleasant by Lion-Cachet, one of the kindest people I have ever met.
Before we began with the mesotherapy treatment, I received a facial and she applied numbing gel to my face and upper chest areas.
While we waited for the gel to take its full effect, we filled in a form together, checking my medical background.
Lion-Cachet explained that mesotherapy is used for cosmetic purposes such as spot fat reduction, cellulite removal, face and neck rejuvenation, hair loss and alopecia.
The treatment also has medical uses for conditions such as arthritis pain, amongst others.
During this therapy session, multiple tiny injections of what Dr Lion-Cachet described as a carefully selected mixture of treating and rejuvenating medications are made into the treatment area, which in my case was the face.
“The injected substances give the skin all the essential building blocks to make collagen and elastin and to hydrate,” she elaborated.
This treatment is said to be extremely effective and will result in a healthy glow, which she said is often called the mesoglow, and also treats sagging in the neck skin, hands and chest areas.
Mesotherapy requires a series of treatments to give best results, ranging from weekly to monthly, and these treatments should be performed only by adequately trained professionals.
Next it was time for the carboxytherapy.
“In aesthetic (cosmetic and beauty medicine), carboxytherapy is successful in treating bags under the eyes, cellulite, stretch marks, sagging neck skin, the skin of the face and hands or any area of sagging skin,” she said.
This treatment has many other uses, such as breast rejuvenation and the treatment of certain types of alopecia, which is hair loss, and also sagging skin.
It is also used for liposculpting-body shaping as it breaks down pockets of fat and cellulite.
According to Lion-Cachet, this process involves the injection of medical grade carbon dioxide (CO2) under the skin, into the area that is targeted, which was my neck, upper chest and eyes.
She explained that this high CO2 concentration in that area is interpreted by the body as a lack of oxygen (O2).
“The body then responds by trying to increase the O2 in the area through increasing blood flow to the area and dilating blood vessels,” she said.
“Over time, if treatments are done regularly, new, healthy blood vessels are formed in the area to permanently bring new blood flow and, thus, O2 and nutrients, too.” she said.
“This increased blood flow brings ‘new life’ and improves the circulation and results in rejuvenation of the area.”
A new, sterilised needle is used for each patient and these treatments can only be done by a qualified medical practitioner.
Lion-Cachet assured me that the treatments are safe and natural, even for extremely sensitive skin-types, such as my own.
I was surprised at how little the tiny pricks to the skin hurt.
Before I knew it, it was over and I enjoyed the benefit of touching softer, silkier skin.
A regular client of Lion-Cachet wrote a testimonial to the City Times, which included the following phrases:
“I have regular carboxy, mesotherapy and chemical peels with Dr Sharon and I feel more relaxed about my body than ever before. Finally I feel that I have a beauty regime that really works …”
“I feel strongly that all women have the right to feel this good; I am so thrilled with my body and that I no longer spend hours each weekend taking care of the lumps and pumps and cracks. Step aside Demi Moore … The Benoni girls are ready to shine.”
