Hospice Wall of Fame gain momentum

The Hospice East Rand Wall of Fame initiative has thus far hit the R55 000 mark and more support is on the way.

Gerda Baverstock, Hospice East Rand manager and public relations officer, said the concept, launched on July 6, has attracted some major sponsors.

“One is Gavin Taylor, a professional cyclist from Benoni, who is riding in the 94.7 Cycle Challenge,” said Baverstock.

Taylor aims to raise R50 000 for the Wall of Fame by organising fund-raising events and approaching various sponsors.

“He has, for example, organised a Golf Day at Benoni Lake Club, as one of the ways to raise funds,” said Baverstock.

Merrill Stainton, from Soul Swimming School, is also hard at work raising funds.

She has the support of all the families of her pupils, as well as other swimming schools in Benoni.

Boksburg Round Table 181 Golden East has raised R10 000 towards this project, while

Saul van Greunen, from Hyundai Benoni, is another major sponsor who is raising funds.

Baverstock said various members of the Hospice Care Club have been absolutely wonderful in raising funds via various projects and initiatives.

Trinity Subaru South Africa and Aero Photo are raising a huge amount of money via the Rally for Hospice project.

“This has earned them a star on our Wall of Fame,” said Baverstock.

Boksburg Advertiser has also earned its star on the wall, by raising R5 400 during its Femme Fatale function, at Summer Place, recently.

There is still plenty of time for more companies and individuals to come on board and Baverstock said she would be delighted if interested persons would contact her, visit Hospice East Rand on Facebook for further details, or contact Hospice on 011 422 1531.
