
Two of the four speedsters clocked over 200km/h.
One of the speedsters a 32-year-old driver in a black BMW M3, was caught doing 208km/h at around 8am.
He claimed that there was a robbery in progress at his business premises in Primrose, and the EMPD officers, also in a BMW, decided to escort him to Primrose and it emerged the driver was lying.
He was immediately arrested and charged with reckless and negligent driving at the Alberton Police Station.
The other speedster, a 24-year-old motor cyclist was nabbed about 8am for doing 204km/h, claiming that he was late for work.
The two other drivers were both in their late 30s, and were caught travelling at 169 and 164km/h.
All the speedsters were arrested at Alberton Police Station, and are expected to appear soon in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court to face reckless and negligent driving charges.
On Saturday morning, August 31, two Benoni drivers were arrested for travelling over 107km/h on Main Reef Road, which is a 70km/h zone.
Speed also contributed to eight fatal accidents in Ekurhuleni from Friday August 30.
Two of the fatal accidents involved single vehicles which lost control due to excessive speeding.
The fatalities claimed the lives of two pedestrians, three drivers and three passengers.
