Water destroys love letters written since the 1940s

Burst geysers are a common occurrence in many people's lives, but it caused heartache for 90-year-old Rynpark 2 resident, Sannie Swanepoel.

She returned home from church on Sunday, September 1, to find her house under several centimetres of water.

‘‘If my neighbour did not tell me it happened, I would have fainted at the door,’’ said Swanepoel.

‘‘I know it was an accident, but my heart is sore inside.

‘‘Rynpark told me they would fit the flat with new things, but how do i feel inside?’’ she asked.

The water destroyed love letters written between her and her first husband, which date back to 1940.

Several pieces of antique furniture, wool, carpets, books, ceiling boards and curtains were damaged due to the leak.

The 90-year-old is currently living with her daughter in Bredell while preparation to have her unit repaired gets underway.

She praised Rynpark management and residents in the complex for their assistance and support during the ordeal.

Rynpark is in the process of restoring the damaged unit.
